@LilacRosesFromMe Wow no TV at all? Very impressed, I think that’s great. The commercials do? get really tedious (that was my favorite thing about DVR), and I agree I have way more time to do other things now that I’m not plopping in front of the TV every night! Thanks for watching :)

@FrugalityGame? Totally agree on all accounts…we’ve been reading more, which has been great. Amazing how the savings can add up, right? Thanks for watching!

@aaykumiks Wow thanks for? the great tip! I’d never heard of Yidio but it seems like a great resource! I’m going to add it to my blog post about living without cable right now. Thanks! And thanks for watching :)

  • aaykumiks says:

I already watch all my shows online because I’m always busy or not at home when my favorite shows? air. So I always watch it the next day on Yidio. Yidio lists a whole bunch of shows and movies & posts links on where you can watch them online. (:

I just bought a roku streaming device (to my TV via wireless internet) & have those channels? as well as over the air, free tv. Working well for me, however, for families with kids I can see why cable is necessary as it’s a heck-of-a-lot cheaper than sending the kids to the movies. :o !

We made the “go without cable” switch just a month and a half ago when we moved apartments.

Thanks to that (and a cheaper yet faster internet deal I negotiated), we’re going to save ~$1,100/year! That’ll pay for a lot of alternative entertainment, such as Hulu Plus, DVDs, and? even live theater. Sweet!

Plus, we have more time in our evenings to talk, walk, explore our community and visit with friends.

For anyone wishing for more time or more money (don’t we all!), giving up cable can be great.

I lived without TV for over a year. It was the best thing I could I? have done. When I went to visit someone and they had their TV on I was so bored with it! SO MANY COMMERCIALS! TV is so loud and busy, not a moments peace. Also, all my other household cleaning got done faster.

Nothing beats a clean, quiet house!

@wereallmadhere9 Totally agree. Now that we’ve been without cable for 8 months,? we find ourselves talking more :) and doing other things. It’s so easy to just flip on the TV and surf around when you’re bored, and end up watching some REALLY bad mindless TV :) Which I admit I like sometimes, and I do admit I miss that sometimes…but overall I like having more free time :) Thanks for watching!

I cut the cable in my home.? OTA has excellent options!

  • TheFrugaliciousShow says:

@thecreativelady Yay! You can do it! We believe in you :) It’s definitely a change that you have to get used to, but when? we decided to try it we said we’d do it for a year and see how it went – if we were DYING we decided we could always give cable a second chance! (Plus you could probably take advantage of some “new customer” deals that way:) It’s been 8 months and we’re not going back. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!

I totally haven’t had cable for over a year. We use Netflix instant play a lot because our Wii connects to it. We also use the internet for current shows. :P It’s amazing! We also watch less TV without the “infinite”? amount of shows available on cable.

  • thecreativelady says:

@TheFrugaliciousShow You’ve inspired me to get rid of one of my 2 DVR boxes and services. I won’t go COLD TURKEY! But we do watch a lot of things online already and notice the duplication. I only watch Project Runway ( I always get the season’s boxed set too) Chopped on Food TV and America’s Top Model. I do have the Netflix account and just started watching on the Wii! I’m ready to take the leap! Thanks? for the encouragement!

  • TheFrugaliciousShow says:

@thecreativelady Now that we’ve gotten rid of it, I think it’s worth? it for us :) We’re saving $100 a month. But there’s definitely a down-side…I won’t be able to watch Project Runway tonight :) I’ll have to wait until it’s on Bravo online or Hulu. Thanks for watching :)

  • TheFrugaliciousShow says:

@mariamindy Thanks for pointing that out, you are so right. When I was in Portugal I tried to stream Netflix and it wouldn’t work :( I did research and read about some ways that you can make it work…(not sure if they’re “allowed”) but they’re definitely out there. I’ll add it to the annotations right now!? Thanks for watching :)

  • TheFrugaliciousShow says:

@Shannyface87 YES! You got? it! My husband watches all his sports online and loves it! Thanks for watching :)

  • TheFrugaliciousShow says:

@FrenchEssieNails Agreed, that was the hardest thing for me? to give up…that and the bliss of stumbling across shows like Say Yes to the Dress and Real Housewives when I’m bored on Saturdays :) Saving $100 a month is worth the sacrifice in the long run….but I REALLY miss DVR sometimes….thanks for watching :)

  • thecreativelady says:

I’ve been thinking about getting rid of cable! Thanks for these tips! I love Project Runway too!? Tonight’s episode should be good!

  • mariamindy says:

You have to make clear that many of those website work? EXCLUSIVELY on the US.
When I travel abroad it´s impossible to do it!

  • cabulin123 says:

    cool?

  • FrenchEssieNails says:

    True but, I love? dvr!lol

  • Shannyface87 says:

I heard of watching sports online and you can connect your tv to your computer so you can watch your sports online from your computer with the luxury of? watching it on your tv.
